What is Bruin Books? FAQ

Bruin Books is the textbook ordering system for Belmont University (in partnership with MBS Direct) designed to offer students an easy, seamless, price-competitive and direct-ship service for your textbook needs.

How does it work?

Bruin Books is integrated with your class registration to allow convenient purchase of required materials for every course. You are automatically opted in to this service. Simply choose New, Used, Rental, E-book, or No Thanks options and complete your preferred delivery address (on campus or off), and you're ready to start the semester. Textbook fees are conveniently assigned to your student account.

What are the advantages of Bruin Books?

Here are just a few of the advantages that you can expect with Bruin Books:

  • Lower costs and upfront price guarantees on books eligible for buy-back
  • Streamlined service
  • Increased availability of rental and digital/e-book options
  • Access to one of the largest used book inventories in the country
  • Free delivery to location of choice, all prior to the start of classes
  • Conveniently linked to registration
  • 24 hour customer service
When do I order my books

I missed the textbook ordering/opt-out window. What do I do?

If you want to receive your textbooks from Bruin Books, do nothing. The lowest available cost new or used textbooks will be delivered to Belmont's campus for you to pick up. You will receive another notice upon their arrival to let you know when and where to retrieve your materials. However, if you wanted to opt out of the system, simply pick up the textbooks on campus and return them to MBS within the 14-day return window. The book charges will be removed from your account once they have been checked in at MBS.

How do these prices compare to other online book sellers?

Your books will come from one of the nation's largest used book distributors who, by volume, is able to lower your book costs and keep prices competitive with other sellers.

Will 'optional' books be auto filled?

No. Only required books will be filled. You may add optional books to your order if they are offered.

What if I only want to purchase some of my materials through the Bruin Books service?

For any titles you do not want to purchase through Bruin Books, you can simply click the No Thanks option next to the unwanted title.

Where do I find what books are required for my classes?

Once the Bruin Books site launches each semester, you can visit the site at any time to view the books required for your courses. If you would like to view the list during registration, just visit TheBelmontStore.com and select the book list for the current term under ‘Textbooks’.

Belmont is not liable for any purchases made from any vendor, including purchases made within the Bruin Books program, resulting from errors or changes in information posted.

Opt In/Opt Out
Why am I being automatically Opted In to this new system?

We believe our partnership with MBS will deliver incredible advantages and convenience to our students. Most importantly, having the right materials in your hands on time for the start of classes is vital to your academic success, and by tying this system to your class registration, we can ensure that will happen.

I want to purchase my textbooks elsewhere. How do I Opt Out?

Students will always be able to opt out of the program. Prior to each semester, you will be emailed the date the Bruin Books store goes live for orders. Simply click the URL during the dates provided in the email, enter your BUid on the home screen and select Opt Out.

Do I have to Opt Out every semester?

Yes. Prior to each semester, you will be emailed the date the Bruin Books store goes live for orders. Simply click the URL during those dates, enter your BUid on the home screen and select Opt Out.

I Opted Out, but now I want to get a few books from Bruin Books. Can I do that?

Yes, simply visit the Bruin Books site and place an order for the items that you want. Select ‘No Thanks’ for the items you do not want included in your order.

I am a transfer or new student and won't register for my classes until the start of the semester. How do I Opt Out?

Students registering around the start of the semester will receive an email with instruction on how to order.

Drop/Add
I ordered through Bruin Books, but now I'm planning to go through Drop/Add when registration re-opens. What do I do with the textbooks I no longer need? How do I get the textbooks for the course(s) I add?

Return the textbooks for dropped classes to MBS within the return period, and the book charges will be removed from your account once they check in at MBS. Once you add a class, return to the portal, make your selections for the new class, and place a new order.

If I ordered through Bruin Books, but now I added a class, how will I get the additional books that I need?

Simply visit the Bruin Books site and the books for your newly added class will appear. You can place your order and ship to the address of your choice. Note: It can take up to 30 minutes after you register for your new class for the Bruin Books site to populate the added class and load your books.

If I Opt Out during the book ordering window, but then decide to drop/add a course, will I need to opt out again?

No, your Opt Out covers that term. You will need to decide at the next term (Spring/Summer/Fall) whether or not you'd like the convenience of the Bruin Books system. If not, you will need to opt out for each term.

I'm not registering for my classes until the new semester begins. How do I get my books?

Students who register for all of their courses immediately prior to the start of the semester (new freshmen/transfers, graduate students) will be directed to the Bruin Books portal to place an order for your recently added classes.
